Miami Beach needs no introduction. Having grown up in Miami it has always been a destination for locals and out of towners. Over the years I've had the honor of collaborating with clients on their homes throughout so many parts Miami Beach - from historic residences to modern, luxury condos.
For 1930s Spanish Mediterranean residences I've oversee the painstaking task of balancing old and new, vintage and modern. The goal being to preserve the charm without creating a timecapsule. I love to infuse a fearlessly curated attitude that is bold, fun, and unexpected. mr alex TATE is an interior design studio founded by Alex Alonso. Alex started the studio with a vision of defining what he calls Modern American Maximalism - a bold, layered design philosophy built on fearless curation, where color, pattern, and texture mingle in an eclectic space. His studio is best known for his remodels on waterfront estates like the Audubon project and maximalist layers onto a bold, modern space like his Matheson project. His projects have received national recognition in publications like The Wall Street Journal and The Robb Report. His perspective on design has been showcased in industry publications like Architectural Digest and Elle Decor. The studio's work stands out from the typical modern, minimalist Miami design by embracing color and personality versus opting for neutral, minimal palettes. Beyond Miami and South Florida, his client roster spans nationally across the US and internationally to the Caribbean, the UK, and the EU.
Understanding the client and embarking on the design journey
Since starting the studio, I've had the honor of collaborating with clients on very special projects. Though many of my clients are local, a good deal of them have moved to the city from New York and the Northeast, others from Chicago and farther West. Others have relocated from London. Each project is special. The experience is personal, the designs are bespoke, the journey is memorable. It's a passion for the craft of design that I truly hold on to.
My projects have taken me all over Miami - Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, Morningside, Belle Meade, Aventura, Miami Beach, Brickell. Each project brings it's own personality. One thing remains consistent: our full-service approach to design remains rooted in an attention to quality, collaboration, and curiosity.

Yes, this is one of our specialties. We work to preserve character-defining original features — like clay tile flooring or vintage fixtures — while introducing updated design, layout, and function.
Does mr alex TATE specialize in historic art deco homes, or only modern properties?
Both. We've had the privilege of designing the interiors of some of Miami Beach's most cherished art deco homes, preserving their historic character while updating them for a modern lifestyle. We also work on Miami Beach's newer, more contemporary residences.
